Kunstsammlung Jena has an impressive collection of around 8,000 works of art, mainly from the 20th century, that are on display in rotation. There are special exhibitions dedicated to modernism, Jena being one of the first towns where artworks from this movement were exhibited and sold. Important positions from contemporary art are also on show.
“The very best of tomorrow on show today…”
In recent years, thousands of visitors have flocked to exhibitions on Auguste Rodin, Emil Nolde, Per Kirkeby, Markus Lüpertz, August Macke and artists of the Brücke group. Photographic exhibitions and displays of video art are regular features here.
