Wood is an incredible natural material that often doesn’t get the appreciation it deserves. That was the original idea behind the Thuringian wood market in Jena, the Holzmarkt.
The event combines a traditional market with a day of activities dedicated to wood. There’s plenty to see and do, including exciting demonstrations, hands-on activities, and an introduction to traditional and modern occupations involving wood. You can observe carpenters, wood carvers and canoe builders at work, and craft stalls from a range of exhibitors invite you to browse, buy or have a go yourself. Fun competitions and hands-on activities, such as painting and crafts, provide plenty of entertainment for the kids – right in the heart of the city of light.
Location City centre Jena
Opening times: 8am to 6pm
Location: Jena city centre (Holzmarkt street, adjoining streets, Eichplatz square)
Includes: more than 100 stalls, a programme of activities, local food and drink and plenty of information on wood
The next wood market – including a wood spectacular – will take place on 10 April 2021.
