Take a cycle tour to explore the history of Napoleon, the famous general and emperor.

The Papiermühle inn at the start of the route is where Napoleon’s soldiers camped on their way to the battlefield in Jena. The ‘On the trail of Napoleon’ cycle route retraces the history of 200 years ago, taking you past memorial stones and through the Windknollen nature conservation area to the Napoleon Stone before ending in Auerstedt. From Bad Kösen you can use the regional train service to return to Jena’s Paradies station.

Braugasthof Papiermühle (Jena) – Cospeda – Closewitz – Krippendorf – Hermstedt – Apolda – Nauendorf – Wickerstedt – Ilmtal-Radweg – Bad Sulza/Auerstedt – Hassenhausen – Bad Kösen

Audio walk: On the Napoleon Cycle Tour, stop off at Museum 1806 in Jena-Cospeda for an interactive walk from the museum to the Napoleon Stone, accompanied by a 30-minute audio walk (MP3 player with headphones, available in German and English at Museum 1806) by Canadian artist Janet Cardiff, winner of the City of Jena’s 2004 Botho Graef Art Prize.
